Description :
Did you know that you can 🖌️🎨visualize sound🎶? Ms. Elina and Mr. Vaggelis with Decibel Team from SolidarityNow’s Green Refugee Center in Athens managed to capture the 〰️ waves of sound🔊 using simple materials, a mirror and a laser. The whole demonstration is based on the fact that soundwaves navigate through matter and they cause it to vibrate. This vibration can be shown thanks to the laser and the mirror.
The Decibel team was able to draw and illustrate the different frequencies of sound and see the variations in the shapes created. This amazing experiment was demonstrated at the Interactive Exhibition of the 2024 Athens Science Festival. But Decibel Team didn’t just visualize sound! They studied the whole Sound chapter! How our ears work, how sound is transmitted as waves through matter and how different frequencies sound! All you need to know about sound can be found in Decibel team’s video! Congratulations!
Hi! We are a team that met together in Steam activities that took place in Athens Solidarity Center (ACE program) this year! We are coming from Egypt, Albania, and Bulgaria, and we are 9-11 years old. We like games, music, drawing, physics, and technology, so experimenting with all these together was fun! Working with “sound -tific situations” this period, made us come up with this name…” Decibel”!
Our Project
It was a three – month project in which we explored with our students the concept of sound, and the way it is perceived and represented in our everyday life, working through music, physics, games, and art! What is sound? Is our body a musical instrument? Can we see the sound?
Discussions about verbal and nonverbal communication, practicing in a music circle, working on team empowerment and active listening was our starting point. Creative musical constructions followed like musical instruments, cup telephones or strip straws to understand meanings like sound, wave, communication etc. Through technology applications and experiments using laser, mirror, and a Bluetooth speaker, we got familiarized with the sound movement and more general with physics and music concepts. After all this experience the most important thing left, was the opportunity to work as a whole team, to learn, to interact, to play and to improvise together!

Very impressive and hard work! Very interesting the way you presented us the phenomenon of sound, the way the human ear works ande the sound waves! We learned a lot all of us! Thank you for that! 💛

This field of musical physics was my favourite when I was studying. You reminded me of how fun it can be to experiment with different elements!
I am so proud of you, you are brilliant and have bright futures ahead of you!
With love,
Jamal

You worked hard! Your experiments were very creative. We liked the way you produced different sounds and drew them on paper.
