Keep Plants Alive!

by Green Innovators

Description :

A brilliant children’s team has creatively harnessed the power of  Micro:bit sensors to control the watering conditions of a plant. Through innovative experimentation, they’ve developed an automatic plant watering system that adjusts watering based on environmental factors, ensuring optimal plant health. Their teamwork showcase remarkable creativity and scientific curiosity. This project not only nurtures their love for learning but also highlights their ability to blend nature and technology seamlessly. Congratulations!

Green Innovators

We are “Green Innovators” and we love using technology to make the world a better place! For the Science United Festival, we created a plant watering prompting system. Our soil moisture sensor checks if the soil is too dry or too wet and lights up the right LED: red means the plant needs water and green means it’s just fine!

Through this project, we explored how different types of soil, their nutrients and their structure affect water retention and plant growth. We planted lavender and discussed how overwatering and underwatering can harm plants. We also discovered technologies that help farmers make better decisions in agriculture. At the same time, we developed our tech skills and became more aware of how smart solutions can support the environment.

As IB learners, we are inquirers, always asking questions and seeking solutions. We are thinkers, using technology to solve real-world problems and knowledgeable, exploring the connections between science, sustainability and innovation. We are also caring, understanding the importance of protecting our planet and principled, working responsibly as a team to make a difference!
